New Word Alive Worship Album 2010
We are delighted that our worship album from 2010 is now available (after some unfortunate delays). Those who ordered it at NWA this year have received their copies and we are now hearing positive reports back. It’s a wonderful way of reminding yourself of the great songs we sang together. Speakers and programme at NWA 2011
We are pleased to tell you some details about the morning tracks that will be happening in 2011. More programme details will come in future updates.
David Cook will be taking our Bible Readings each morning during NWA. He is going to be teaching us from the book of Acts, showing us the unstoppable spread of God’s gospel. You can get to know David a little in the interview with him in this update.
Carl Trueman will introduce us to a different historical character each day showing us both something of their lives and the key truths they discovered, defended and taught. It should be rich food both expanding our appreciation of God’s people through the centuries as well as giving us a deeper picture of the God we share with them. Carl lectures at Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia.
Tim Chester will be helping us in our battle against sin in our lives as we seek to be more like Jesus. He will help us understand why sin can be so attractive and powerful, but how Jesus can enable us to truly change to be the people God made us to be. Tim is a minister at Crowed House, Sheffield.
Mike Ovey is going to tackle the topic of true love. Our society places huge weight on love, but often it is self-love rather than love of God and love of neighbour. Mike will point us to the Lord Jesus to help us see what true love really is. Mike is the principal of Oakhill Theological College in north London.
Andrew Evans will teach our Rough Guide to the Whole Bible showing us how the Bible fits together as one book telling one story about God’s plan for his world. Seeing this big picture will not only help us understand the Bible better but gives us the thrill of seeing God’s great plan for his world through Jesus and so grasp what we are part of today. Andrew is minister at Christ Church, Liverpool.
At New Word Alive 2011 David Cook will be leading our morning Bible Readings taking us through the book of Acts. David is principal of Sydney Missionary and Bible College where he lectures in preaching and pastoral subjects. He is married to Maxine and they have five adult children and eleven grandchildren. We asked him a few questions so we could get to know him ahead of the event
Quick fire round
Q Cricket or rugby? Cricket
Q Indian or Chinese food? Indian
Q Surfing or sunbathing? Surfing
Q Favourite film? Showboat, Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein
Q Worst book? Foundations of Economic Analysis, Paul Samuelson
Specialist round
Q How did you become a Christian? I became a Christian on 9 July 1967. My father had been converted two years earlier. I went on a youth group house party where I heard the gospel.
Q When you feel low as a Christian what do you find often encourages you? Always the objective truth of the bodily resurrection of Jesus and my justified status with God by faith in his Son.
Q What do you love about your job? Seeing students prepared for Christian ministry and then seeing them involved in productive service.
Q What is your most fun family activity? We have a swimming pool in our backyard - summer barbecues around the pool with the family.
Q What do you most like about living in Sydney? The temperate climate, the beauty of Sydney Harbour and the beaches, attending a warm fellowship of believers and hearing the gospel preached there faithfully.
Q How are you feeling about six days in North Wales next April teaching us from Acts? I’m looking forward to it.When I came to SMBC as Principal in 1985, there was no-one to lecture on Acts so I did it. Over the years, I have had a growing appreciation for this dynamic book and appreciate why God has placed it in the Canon. It really is a tonic for the soul.
Q What is it from Acts that excites you and what do you hope the Lord will teach us together? The irony is that in a book called Acts, the focus is always on the Word. God’s gospel is unstoppable. I trust we will all be encouraged to have greater confidence in the power of the gospel and to see ourselves as its Spirit-empowered messengers.
Thanks David, we’re looking forward to having you with us next April. If you would like to hear a talk by David Cook (and tune in to his accent!) then use the link below. Listen to David Cook
We do hope you will be able to join us at NWA 2011.
Yours warmly,
Nigel Beynon
